Immersive Engineering
With
Immersive Engineering installed, water keeps its grade in its pumps, pipes, barrels and bottles.
Supported versions
NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, with Immersive Engineering 12.4.2, and Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1, with Immersive Engineering 10.2.0. Immersive Engineering has no build for any other loader or Minecraft version, so they ignore it.
Fluid Pump
The Fluid Pump takes the grade of the water it pumps, the same as a bucket would. A pump in the sea fills up with sea water, and one in a swamp with Dirty water.
A pump holding one grade waits until its tank is empty before it takes water of another grade, so two grades never mix in its tank.
Bottling Machine
A glass bottle filled in the Bottling Machine gets the grade of the water in the machine. Sea water makes bottles of sea water.
Pipes, barrels and the Jerrycan
Water keeps its grade through Fluid Pipes, the Wooden and Metal Barrel, the Fluid Tank and the Jerrycan. Water of different grades stays apart: a Jerrycan only tops up with water of the grade it already holds.
How grades are worked out is on the Water Purity page.
